1. The short version
Video Origin identifies the likely source of a short video. To do that, it briefly handles the clip, sends a few still frames to OpenAI, then deletes the video. Your identification history stays on your device. We do not sell personal information.
- Sign in with Google or Apple is required to run a check.
- Videos are temporary. They are deleted after analysis.
- Results are saved on your device, not on our servers.
- No advertising SDKs. We do not sell your data.
2. Account information
When you continue with Google or Apple, we receive the identity token those providers issue and store an account so we can remember your remaining checks. That account can include:
- Provider (Google or Apple) and the provider’s account identifier.
- Name, email address, and profile picture, when the provider supplies them.
- How many checks you have left, and when the account was created.
New accounts receive a small free grant of checks. Signing out on the device removes the local session token. It does not delete the account record on the server. Email us if you want the account removed.
3. Videos and frames
If you paste a public YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok link, our servers download that video so you can choose a range. If you upload a file, the upload is held the same way. The file stays in temporary storage only while you prepare the clip and the check runs. It is deleted when the analysis finishes, and it is not added to a video library.
Identification uses 3–5 still frames sampled from the range you chose. Those images are sent to OpenAI’s vision API, together with instructions to name the movie, series, music video, creator video, or other source. OpenAI processes that request under its own terms. We do not keep the frames after the response comes back.
If a link cannot be downloaded, the app asks you to upload the clip instead. We do not ask you to sign in to YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok.
4. Identifications
The title, type, year, confidence, explanation, visual evidence, and alternatives are returned to the app and saved in history on that device (this iPhone, or this browser). Our servers do not store that history. Clearing history, or uninstalling the app, removes the local copy. Browser history can also be cleared from Settings in the web app.
5. Purchases
Each identification spends one check. Extra checks are sold as packs inside the app.
- On iPhone, purchases go through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment. We receive a signed transaction so we can add checks, and App Store refund notifications so we can revoke them.
- On the web, card checkout uses Stripe when it is configured. Stripe processes the card. We store the pack, amount, status, and the payment reference needed to credit your account. We do not receive or store your full card number.
6. What we don’t do
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use advertising or third-party analytics SDKs in the app. We do not build a profile of the videos you check beyond the account, check balance, and purchase records described above.
7. Children’s privacy
Video Origin is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Security
Account and purchase records are stored on our servers and protected with ordinary access controls. Sessions use a bearer token kept on your device. Local history is protected by your device or browser. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in the app or in legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
